The spotlight is officially heating up in the "City of Smiles" as the City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) kicks off the highly anticipated search for Reyna ng Davao 2026. Opening its online application portals on May 1, the pageant continues its legacy as a premier platform for transgender women to showcase not just beauty, but powerful advocacy and civic leadership. This year’s theme, "Visible in Every Voice," marks a strategic shift from merely being seen to being heard, challenging candidates to use their platforms for genuine social inclusion. As part of the city's vibrant second-quarter festivities, the search aims to find an ambassadress who embodies the resilient and diverse spirit of the Dabawenyo LGBTQIA++ community.

Qualifications and the Road to the Crown

To qualify for the 2026 crown, interested candidates must be self-identified transgender women who have resided in Davao City for at least one year. Applicants are required to submit a comprehensive digital portfolio via the official QR code or the link provided on the Reyna ng Davao Facebook page by the May 15 deadline. Essential documents include a PSA-authenticated birth certificate, a valid government ID indicating a local address, and two colored photos (one whole-body and one 3R close-up). While the basic mechanics remain consistent with previous years, the 2026 competition introduces a revamped segment format for the Coronation Night, designed to give each candidate more time to speak on their community advocacies.

    Screening and Candidate Training

Following the online submission phase, a rigorous screening process is scheduled for May 18, where applicants are required to wear a professional, non-revealing corporate jumpsuit. The screening committee will select the Top 20 finalists, who will then undergo a series of specialized orientations, workshops, and high-fidelity photoshoots aimed at professionalizing their public presence. A unique component of the Reyna ng Davao journey is the mandatory Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, where the queens engage directly with local marginalized sectors. This hands-on training ensures that the eventual winner is not just a titleholder but a seasoned advocate ready to work alongside the CTOO in various city engagements.

The Power of the Theme: 'Visible in Every Voice'

According to Willenito P. Tormis Jr., Officer-in-Charge of the CTOO, the "Visible in Every Voice" theme is a call to action meant to address the tendency of diverse voices to be overlooked in the broader social discourse. By centering the competition around the power of speech and advocacy, the city aims to humanize the transgender experience and foster a deeper understanding of LGBTQIA++ issues. This thematic focus is part of Davao’s broader commitment to cultural diversity, as seen in the recent 3D mapping shows that celebrated the city's 11 indigenous tribes. As the search culminates in June, the new Reyna ng Davao will serve as a symbol of unity, reminding all Dabawenyos that every voice is vital to the city's collective progress.
